Sixties Happenings - The British Are Coming!

If you’re planning a trip to New York in the near future, make time to visit the Not Fade Away Gallery, which is currently housing an exhibition called ‘The British Are Coming!’

The collection features previously unseen photographs of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, taken between 1964 and 1966 by Bob Bonis. Bonis was the bands’ first American tour manager and as he was an avid amateur photographer, he always had a camera on hand to snap the boys at work and play as they travelled around the States.

During his working life, Bob also photographed the likes of Simon & Garfunkel, Cream, the Hollies and the Lovin’ Spoonful, but amazingly, the negatives were simply put into storage and it wasn’t until his son decided to sell off his archive of memorabilia after Bob’s death in 1991 that they came to light again.

This first exhibition displays over 50 prints of the Beatles and the Stones from the complete collection of 3,500 photographs, but it has aroused so much interest from the media, collectors and the general public that further events are now in the pipeline.

‘The British Are Coming!’ exhibition runs until 14th April and the Not Fade Away Gallery can be found at 12 East 20th Street, 2nd floor (at Broadway).
