Chris Farlowe

Watch Chris Farlowe performing his 1966 hit ‘Out Of Time’ here:

Cutting his musical teeth with his own skiffle group, Chris Farlowe moved on to R&B and by the early Sixties, he and his band the Thunderbirds had a strong following on both London and Hamburg club circuit. He was under contract to Columbia, but didn’t enjoy chart success until he signed to Andrew Loog Oldham’s Immediate label and had a hit with his single ‘Think’ and his first album, ‘14 Things To Think About’ in 1966. However, it was a follow-up single ‘Out Of Time’, produced by Mick Jagger who co-wrote the song with Keith Richards, that became part of the soundtrack to that summer and provided Chris with a massive hit that proved hard to follow - although ‘Handbags and Gladrags’, penned for him by Manfred Mann’s Mike D’Abo, has turned into another minor classic, covered and released as a single by Stereophonics in 2001 and used as the theme tune for ‘The Office’. Chris continues to record and tour extensively in Europe, as well as running his own antiques business.
