Hello,

My name is Carl Leighton-Pope and I’ve been an agent in the music industry for over 30 years, working with a number of well-known artists including Bryan Adams, Michael Bublé, Dire Straits, Simple Minds, Van Morrison and Huey Lewis & The News.

About ten years ago, I went to see a showcase, conceived and written by James Hall, entitled ‘Carnaby Street’. I was immediately captivated by the show, because Carnaby Street and the surrounding area - especially its famous Marquee Club - was a regular haunt for me when I first started work back in the Sixties. I loved the concept of the musical, but felt it needed more work and initially, James and I collaborated on a number of changes before we decided that I would take full control, becoming its producer and also penning a revised version of the script. While retaining some of James’ original songs, I also added a number of fantastic hits from the Sixties.

At the beginning of this year, I started to assemble the team which will lead the project to fruition and enable it to tour the UK next year, with a proposed West End opening in the summer.

On this website, you will be able to read an account of how the show is progressing, but we also want to give you a flavour of the era in which it is set, so we have contacted a lot of the people who became part of the Carnaby Street legend to ask them for their memories of the time. I will also be recounting my experiences in this ongoing journal.

I hope you will enjoy the musical when we bring it to the stage and that you will also be intrigued and entertained by this website, because ‘Carnaby Street’ is very much my story.
